Train 2 Train: A Community of Parkinson's Trainers

For two years, I led and trained a peer community of people living with Parkinson's who also led exercise and training programs for others with the disease. Members came from diverse backgrounds including Rock Steady Boxing, Ping Pong for Good, Martial Arts, and community-based fitness programs.

Together, we studied principles of motor learning, challenged one another's assumptions, and became better teachers for the peole we served. Many of the ideas that now shape the podcast, research, and Think and Move Well were refined through these conversations.

The project reinforced something that remains central to my philosophy today: the most powerful way to extend good training is to help people learn how to teach themselves.

Patient Voice

Many of the ideas behind Think and Move Well emerged from listening closely to people living with Parkinson's. Their experiences, questions, and observations continue to shape how I think about movement, learning, and adaptation.

Self-Leadership

My goal is not to create dependence on a coach. It isto help people understand their own systems, make better decisions, and develop the confidence to guide their own progress.

Community

Through peer discussion, shared experimentation, and lasting friendships, individuals often discover solutions that no textbook or protocol could provide alone.

"I use the 314159 when I'm frozen. I need to get going again. It works really well, better than straight counting. It's more rhythmic. I feel more controlled, because I'm still engaging my brain, I'm thinking about what I'm doing as I walk. I have a flow with the numbers."

"Compared to traditional Parkinson's physical therapy which plateaued for me, this has been so effective that I could practice it for the rest of my life."
